Just a personal preference; I find at the all ages show those that are underage are overly pushy and shove their way to the front regardless, whereas most 'of age' shows the audience is at least respectful of each other.

You're right on with this!! I was so confused looking at the nominees! They obviously know who some of Canada's best songwriters and "new" artists are, but the album of the year was shocking. What an embarrassment to have any of those win and represent Canada's best album? ugh!!

If I can passionately disagree with your "meh" for a moment...

I've never seriously considered going to Coachella before, but I find myself scrambling to pull together the cash to go. I know they're outside your usual tastes, but I can't describe how huge Refused and At The Drive-In are to people my age (and a little older) who were into late 90's post-hardcore music. They would be like Pearl Jam and Nirvana to a grunge fan. To have them both not only reunited but playing at the same event is incredible. Then throw in 3 artists that would be in my top 15 of all time (Radiohead, Pulp, Jeff Mangum), and a few others that rank quite highly (Godspeed! You Black Emperor, Mazzy Star, Buzzcocks). I can see how someone like you who covers a lot of new, indie music would find it a little lacking compared to previous years, but a lot of the artists in that vein that I'm into are featured (Bon Iver, EMA, Girls, We Are Augustines, The Weeknd, Beirut). Plus, this all is overlooking Cat Power, fIREHOSE, The Hives, The Shins, Explosions In The Sky, M83, and the handful of bands I'd inevitably discover by attending.

Hell, I'd give a kidney to see a lot of those bands. I'm sure I can part with $1000 or whatever and overcome my dislike of massive festivals.

I know some many grown-ups that get frozen in the musical era of their college days. Or they just seem to give up music altogether. I'll admit that I'm a little behind or perhaps my tastes have just matured. I'll stick rock out but I'm happy with my singer-songwriter mixes.

So incredibly true! I am almost never aware of new music these days simply because I don't bother listening to the radio and I don't do enough research myself. I think you can wear that bands shirts from PRIOR tours to the CURRENT show...IF and ONLY IF the shirt you are wearing is from a significant gig or tour. Say Duran Duran's rum runner days, The Beatles at Shea stadium (say for example, at McCartney show), A Mensch Maschine shirt from 1978 to a Kraftwerk gig in 2011..that sort of thing. It has to be at least a decade old for it to be acceptible. Last years tour does not count.

I saw them in Calgary the night after Sonic Boom; so amazing! To answer your question about merch, I was chatting with Matt and he said they didn't have the proper paperwork (GST??) to sell at a venue in Alberta so they couldn't put out their stuff at Republik either... such a bummer as I was hoping to score a vinyl of Big Roar.

These guys are amazing performers.
